I am unable to find any records of my refund on the Michigan Treasury eServices 'Where's My Refund' portal, despite entering all my information correctly. Could you please help me verify the status of my 2025 tax return? Maybe Turbotax didn't send my state tax document or sent a different amount of refund?
How did you file the return? If you efiled, look to see what the efile status that's showing on your Tax Home page. Does it say accepted, rejected, printed, started, ready to mail, or what?
If that confirms it was accepted, then at the Michigan refund lookup tool you will need your tax ID (SSN or FEIN), the tax year, and the state refund amount. Look at your actual Michigan state return to get the refund amount to use in the tool. If you have an MI-1040, I believe the refund is shown on Line 39.
In Turbotax home page it says "Accepted" but when I try to check it in Michigan's web site it says no record found. Also my friend from Michigan done it after me and she got the refund. Also I couldn't find my MI-1040, it is not in my documents on Turbotax.

You can't go by when someone else gets their refund. It's all unpredictable and variable.
To get a copy of your 2025 return PDF which should include both the Federal and State returns, log in to Online TurboTax, and at the Tax Home scroll down to "Your Tax Returns & Documents." Expand that section and choose tax year 2025, and you should be able to download/view the return PDF. When viewing the PDF, the state return is near the end. You should be able to get it there. If for some reason you can't, we can tell you another way to get the PDF, but it's more complicated.
Or phone the Michigan Treasury eServices and just ask them about your refund. If they can identify you on the phone, they will likely tell you its status.

Use the phone number shown there for "Individual Income Tax Users."
Oh, I just saw that you might have to have your copy of your Michigan return in front of you if you call them.
See the info here:
https://www.michigan.gov/taxes/iit/contact-us
So your best bet may be to get the MI-1040 and use the refund lookup tool.
You might want to call the Michigan Dept of Revenue.
I assume you are looking on this website: https://mitreasury-eservices.michigan.gov/CitizenPortal/_/#2
If you filed jointly, make sure you are using the primary taxpayers social security number and your Michigan refund amount.
Your refund could be offset. The IRS and State Governments have the ability to offset a refund to pay for certain past due debts. You generally will receive a letter stating what the offset was for.
The IRS provides a toll-free number, (800) 304-3107, to call for information about tax offsets.
Here is a FAQs to help you track your refund:
How do I track my state refund?
I have reviewed my 2025 tax documents, and despite entering all my information accurately, the 'Where's My Refund' portal consistently returns a 'No record found' status. It has been six weeks since my return was accepted via TurboTax, and I am concerned that my filing may not have successfully reached the state's system.
As I am currently located outside the United States and do not have access to a U.S. phone number, I am unable to call information line for assistance. I have been attempting to find the appropriate department's email address on the Michigan website to resolve this issue but have been unsuccessful so far. I am reaching out to verify the receipt of my return and to request guidance on the next steps.
Good news and bad news. The accepted on TurboTax means that your name and social along with any other identifiers MI requires was met by your return and taken into their system.
The MI system will show no record found:
While 6 weeks feels long, if your return was flagged for review or identity verification, it can take longer. If you were flagged for identity verification, they would mail a letter to your address on file.
Use the Michigan Treasury eServices portal. Select "IIT Individual Income Tax" and then "Communicate with Treasury."
As for your missing form, follow these steps:
If your MI is truly missing, MI may have rejected your return after the initial acceptance.
I literally tried everything but I can't communicate with State Treasury. In system it says "If it has been more than 8 weeks, resubmit a copy of your information.". Does it mean resend tax form by turbotax? Do you think is it gonna be problem to send a request again with my same informations bc there is no any other possibilities?
I would not resubmit. Since you already successfully filed, you would not be able to efile a second return. It could be your return is going through extra processing. I would just be patient.
First of all, I apologize for asking so many questions, but I am in a very confusing situation and would truly appreciate your expertise.
I was in Michigan for about 3 months on a Work and Travel program. I realized I made a big mistake on my MI-1040: I should have selected 'Part-Year Resident' (or Nonresident) because of my J-1 status, but I accidentally checked the 'Resident' box. I think this is why I am having issues now.It has been 8 weeks since TurboTax showed my return as 'Accepted,' but the Michigan Treasury website still says 'No record found.' Their website says: 'If it has been more than 8 weeks, resubmit a copy of your information.'I am currently outside the U.S. and I cannot call them. My main concern is the April 15 deadline. I don't care if it takes a long time for them to process or send the refund; I just want to make sure my form is officially in their hands and corrected before April 15.
So, my questions are:
1. Should I 'Amend' my return through TurboTax right now to fix the residency status and resubmit it?
2. Does filing an 'Amended Return' via TurboTax actually send a brand new, corrected form to the state, or does it just update my records within TurboTax? Since the state says they have 'no record' of me, I want to make sure that amending will serve as a 'resubmission' of my entire corrected file to the Michigan Treasury before the April 15 deadline.
1. No, an amended return should only be filed after the original is finished processing.
You need to solve the problem with a digital trail.
2. An amended is not new, it is reporting changes. The state can't compare changes without the original.
@ sametulaskarasu57
Putting Michigan aside for a moment, how did you file your Federal return? There might be even more you need to untangle.
You have now mentioned that you spent 3 months in Michigan in a Work and Travel program on a J-1 visa. Was that your only time spent in the USA?
Did you file your Federal return using TurboTax on a regular Form 1040? TurboTax can only prepare returns for US citizens and "resident aliens for tax purposes." It cannot prepare Form 1040-NR for non-resident aliens. TurboTax has a partner Sprintax (one t) that can prepare Form 1040-NR. So first it needs to be determined if you are considered a "non-resident alien."
I'm not a tax person, but when you respond with the additional information, tax expert @ AmyC will probably be able to assist in that regard.
