Yes, if your return has been already accepted by the IRS, you will have to file an amended return (1040X) to make changes. The IRS will only accept amended returns via mail.

But your parents do not need to wait for you to do so. They can file now. But, they probably will not be able to e-file and will have to mail in a paper return.
But "entering the 1098-T" in TurboTax does not necessarily mean you actually claimed anything, requiring you to amend. Review your forms, particularly lines 12 and 17 of form 1040. If these lines are blank or zero, you do not need to amend.
