I am a student and put my 1098-T form in my taxes by mistake when my parents are the ones who were suppose to claim it. Is there a way to amend it so they can claim it?

Yes, if your return has been already accepted by the IRS, you will have to file an amended return (1040X) to make changes. The IRS will only accept amended returns via mail.

Please see the following information on how to amend your return:

You have to file an amended return.

But your parents do not need to wait for you to do so. They can file now. But, they probably will not be able to e-file and will have to mail in a paper return.

But "entering the 1098-T" in TurboTax does not necessarily mean you actually claimed anything, requiring you to amend. Review your forms, particularly lines 12 and 17 of form 1040. If these lines are blank or zero, you do not need to amend.
