I accidently forgot to add my parent as an exemption on the 1040 form and didn't catch it until I submitted everything to the irs. What can I do to fix it?

You will have to wait for the IRS to see if your return is accepted or rejected as noted below.

• Accepted Return:  You can add it by completing an amended return if you have already filed your return and the IRS has accepted it.  
• Rejected Return:  If your return has been rejected, you can add that to your return before you resend it a second time.

If the return does receive acceptance then an amended return is required to add your parent.  Follow the steps below to amend your return.  This amendment is not allowed to be e-filed and must be mailed.  You can find the address for your are by using the link here.  Where to File Paper Returns With or Without a Payment
