Yes, I would go ahead and prepare that amendment and send it in. Once they process it (12-16 weeks), they will send you a bill.

You can either pay it at that time or you can setup a payment plan directly via the IRS website at the link below:

https://www.irs.gov/individuals/online-payment-agreement-application

If I filed my 2023 amended tax return electronically in CA, do I have to mail anything in? Also I accidentally paid the amended tax before it was received by the IRS
