How will turbo tax deduct my preparation fee from my refund

When you choose to deduct your TurboTax product fees from your Federal refund, an intermediary company called SBTPG (Santa Barbara Tax Products Group) opens a temporary bank account in your name at either Civista Bank of Sandusky, Ohio, or Green Dot Bank.   When the IRS releases your Federal refund, it goes first to that intermediary bank where the fees are subtracted.   Then SBTPG sends the rest of your Federal refund on to your bank account in a second direct deposit.

Occasionally the intermediary bank will require additional ID info, which might cause a delay.  In addition, if the deposit from SBTPG's bank to your bank fails for any reason, it bounces back to SBTPG's bank who will issue you a paper check in the mail.

The fee for that service is 34.99 in states other than California.  In California, that option is part of the Premium Services bundle which has a 39.99 fee.

If you chose that option and want to remove it prior to filing, you can remove it then pay your fees upfront with a credit card, debit card, or a prepaid debit card you can buy in a store.   Here's how:
