Do you mean you switched the order of the names on a joint tax return? Did you use the same account for that return that you used for a joint return for 2024? Did you already e-file---or did you just pay your fees? You should not change the order of the names after you begin filing joint tax returns from one year to the next, as it confuses the IRS and may delay your refund. It will also cause lots of errors if you just switched the order of the names because other embedded information in the account did not "switch" around.
Joint is the filing status for a married couple filing together. On a Joint return there is a primary taxpayer and a spouse. The order of names doesn’t matter but the IRS wants you to be consistent each year.
How did you file last year? Why do you want to change the order? You should not change the order of names. TurboTax will not allow you to remove the primary taxpayer on the return. And you should not try to change the order of names. If you were listed as the spouse and want to be the primary taxpayer now or delete the primary person, you will need to start a new return by logging out and starting over with a new account and new user name and password. You will not be able to transfer from the prior year. If you try to change the order there are too many places to change it and you might miss some.
