Turbo Tax still has a Free Edition for very simple returns. But they are no longer participating in the IRS Free File website.

If you were required to upgrade then you cannot use the TT FREE option even if you start over in the free option once you get to that place in the interview the upgrade will be required again.  

I suggest you  find another free offer at IRS Free File site ... if your AGI is $73K or less there is a free option for you :
