How to claim State taxes paid last year

If you paid state taxes last year and need to claim them on your 2016 tax return follow these steps:

• Open up your tax return in Turbotax

• Click pick up where I left off

• Select Federal Taxes at the top of your screen

• Select Deductions and Credits

• Scroll down the page to the section titled Estimates and Other Taxes Paid and click Show More

• Select Start/Revisit to the right of the line Estimated Taxes or Other Income Taxes depending on what type of state tax you paid

• Select the appropriate type of state tax that you paid and click Start to the right of the line

• Enter your state tax payment amount.
