How do I download a .tax file before I've finished my tax return?

In the Tools Center pop-up, I don't have the option to "Save your 2025 return to your computer"

What is your goal for the tax file?  Why are you needing it?   Are you moving to the desktop product?  If you don't plan to use Online TurboTax, we may be able to tell you another way to switch products that will fetch your data file.

Or have you already filed a 2025 online tax return, or plan to be doing so?   Have you paid for your product?   Once filed the *.tax2025 data file should be available at the Tax Home under "Your Tax Returns & Documents."   In any case, you can go ahead and look in that section now, just in case it's showing up there.

I'm moving to the desktop product. I started online until I was able to get a copy of the desktop product (I bought a physical copy of TurboTax from my local Costco to get the best deal).

If using Windows PC, the software requires Windows 11.

If you started a state return online,  you should download your state software into your desktop product before doing the following, or it might show an error message.

After signing into the desktop product, I think on the first screen in desktop TurboTax should be a link/button "Continue from TurboTax Online."

Follow the prompts to sign into your Online Account, etc., and it should perform the transfer.
