How do I change my 2016 filing date on my 1040 to 10/16/17, and also edit the tax payments total I've previously made on my in progress 1040 form for my 2016 taxes too?

The software will put the correct date on the return. To enter the payments you made with your extension, go to Federal>Deductions and Credits>Estimates and Other Taxes Paid>Other Income Taxes
