There's no fee to try TurboTax. Your husband should know whether he entered the credit/debit card or not and whether a transaction was completed. If he didn't do that, then it won't charge you.
There's only a fee if you try to file or print. And it will clearly ask for your credit/debit card info unless you chose to pay your fees out of the Federal refund, an option which has an additional 39.99 service fee (44.99 for California filers.) But if your return was not filed, that part would be moot, too.
So if you didn't print or file, you shouldn't be charged for anything. You are not required to finish.
If you want to clear out your return before you leave, you may be able to. It won't let you clear it if you previously registered or paid, however.
