How do I amend my 2023 fed return if I did not e-file? I had issues with e-file before April 15, 2024. So I mailed it in, which was mis-scanned. Now I have to fix it.

You can amend---but you need to wait until the original return has been fully processed by the IRS.  Then amend by using Form 1040X in order to make changes to incorrect or incomplete information that was on your original return.    Not sure what you mean by "mis-scanned."    Please explain.

See this TurboTax support FAQ for amending a tax return - https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-return/amend-change-correct-return-a...

Do not expect quick results from amending. It can take four months or more for the IRS to process an amended return.

You can watch for information here:

Mis-scanned: IRS took my interest income and made that my ordinary income, instead of what I actually filed, which is lower. This inflated my adjusted gross income, and the amount I owe.

My question is whether I can use TurboTax to amend my 2023 tax, which was not e-filed.

If you used TT to prepare your return, you can use TT to amend your return.   Your amended return will have to be filed by mail, since you did not e-file the original return.

However---what do you plan to change when you amend?   If you are saying that the mistake was made by the IRS, and not that the mistake was in the way you entered the income on your own tax return, amending is not going to help you to correct the problem.   Have you tried contacting the IRS?

Call the IRS: 1-800-829-1040 hours 7 AM - 7 PM local time Monday-Friday
When calling the IRS do NOT choose the first option re: "Refund", or it will send you to an automated phone line.
So after first choosing your language, then do NOT choose Option 1 (refund info). Choose option 2 for "personal income tax" instead.
Then press 1 for "form, tax history, or payment".
Then press 3 "for all other questions."
Then press 2 "for all other questions."
- When it asks you to enter your SSN or EIN to access your account information, don't enter anything.
- After it asks twice, you will get another menu.

Press 2 for personal or individual tax questions.
Then press 3 for all other inquiries
It should then transfer you to an agent.

Yeah, I contacted them several times over the past 2+ months - 7 phone calls (each took at 30 minutes) + 2 letters, including the originally submitted 1040.

Thanks for your help

May I ask........How did IRS took my interest income and made that my ordinary income?  Interest income is ordinary income.   Why should your income be less than the interest?   What lines on your1040?

Sorry. I meant to say ordinary dividend, which is a separate line from interest income.

They somehow scanned my interest income into my ordinary dividend.

Oh ok.    Do you have a qualified amount on  1099DIV box 1b?  And is it on 1040 line 3a?  It also should be included in the total Ordinary Dividends on line 3b and line 9 and in the AGI.

BUT,  Even though the full amount shows up in the total income on the 1040 line 3b or 7, if you have capital gains or qualified dividends the tax is not taken from the tax table but is calculated separately from Schedule D. The tax will be calculated on the Qualified Dividends and Capital Gain Tax Worksheet. It does not get filed with your return. In the online version you need to save your return as a pdf file and include all the worksheets to see it.

SAVE YOUR TAX RETURNS !

EVERY year before mid-October you should save a copy of your tax return as a pdf and print a copy of it for your records.  That way you will not be searching online frantically when you need it for a lender, FAFSA forms, your next tax return, etc.

NOTE:  TurboTax and the IRS save returns for seven years.  Returns older than seven years are purged.
