How do I acquire a copy of my 2016 tax return that I completed BEFORE I amended it? I never submitted the amended return, and I effectively need my filed 2016 return.

If you did not save and download a PDF of the original return before starting the amended return using the online editions then the amended return is the only tax return available.

With the online version of TurboTax, when you amend the return, that amended return replaces the original return. That's why we've been screaming to TTX to "force" users to download the already filed and accepted tax return, before it will allow you to amend it. As far as I know, they still haven't implemented that yet.

If your amended return has already been mailed, then hopefully it hasn't been processed yet. Once processed by the IRS,
it too replaces your "original". Then when you request a transcript, or if you pay the $50 for an exact copy, that "exact copy" will be as amended.

you can get a transcript of your original return from the IRS.
You can compare that to your revised (amended) tax return.

But if you don't have a printout of either , you'd have to get an  EXE copy of the CD/Download version for your PC. Contact TurboTax Support

Once you have that, you can unwind the amendment you made, if you want to do that.
