How do I access my son's 2015 tax return and start 2016 for him?

You have to sign onto his 2015 online account using the exact same user ID used to create the account.  Use this TurboTax account recovery website to get a list of all the user ID's for an email address.  Run the tool against any email addresses you may have used - https://myturbotax.intuit.com/account-recovery

If none of the user ID's received will access the 2015 account, then use the option shown in blue on the account recovery website, "I don't know my email address or user ID"

IIf you used the desktop CD/Download editions installed on your computer, the only copy of your tax data file and any PDF's will be on the computer where the return was created.  TurboTax does not store online any returns completed using the desktop editions.

website continues to log into my 2016 tax return.  How do I start his 2016 return?  On the 2015 website, I was able to just start a new return and then import his info.

How did you do his return last  year?  Or rather your return?  Did you do your return in the same account?  Try the recovery tool again.  You have to first LOG OUT of whatever TurboTax account you're logged into right now. Then use this TurboTax account recovery website to get a list of user ID's for an email address.  Run the tool against any email addresses you may have used https://myturbotax.intuit.com/account-recovery/

The Online version is only good for 1 return. But you can use the same email address for 5 accounts.  To do another return you have to set up a new account and new user name and pay any fees again.
