SAVE YOUR TAX RETURN !
EVERY year before mid-October you should save a copy of your tax return as a pdf and print a copy of it for your records. That way you will not be searching online frantically when you need it for a lender, FAFSA forms, your next tax return, etc.
I did not save it what do I next
To access your current or prior year online tax returns sign onto the TurboTax website with the User ID you used to create the account - https://myturbotax.intuit.com/
Scroll down to the bottom of the screen and on the section Your tax returns & documents click on Show. Click on the Year and Click on Download/print return (PDF)
If you used the desktop CD/Download editions installed on your computer, the only copy of your tax data file and any PDF's will be on the computer where the return was created. TurboTax does not store online any returns completed using the desktop editions.
Or go to this IRS website for free federal tax return transcripts - https://www.irs.gov/individuals/get-transcript
For a fee of $50 you can get a complete federal tax return from the IRS by completing Form 4506 - http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f4506.pdf
@2ZoeNaomi2 If you used online software the tax return is saved in your online account and you can access it using exactly the same account and user ID used when you prepared the return. If you used the CD/download then it is only stored on your own hard drive. Try looking on your hard drive. Or you can get a transcript from the IRS or for $50 an actual copy from the IRS.
You can get a free transcript from the IRS:
Many people have multiple TT accounts and forget how to access them. Log out of the account you are in now.
Or did you use the desktop version of TurboTax? If so, the files are on your own hard drive or any backup device you used like a flash drive.

There are different steps to follow to print/view your recently filed tax return in TurboTax depending if your tax return has already been accepted with the IRS or not.
Please see this TurboTax FAQ to print your tax return you filed this year (the return will need to be accepted): How do I get a copy of a return I filed this year in TurboTax Online?
If it has not been accepted follow these steps:
- Sign into TurboTax if you haven't already.
- On the Tax Home screen, scroll down and select Add a State (don't worry, we're not adding a state) to access your tax forms and worksheets.
- In the left menu, select Tax Tools then Print Center.
- On the TurboTax Print Center screen, select Print, save or preview this year's return.
- On the next TurboTax Print Center screen, select 2020 federal returns and Include Government and TurboTax Worksheets (optional), then select View or Print Forms.
You can also obtain a free federal tax return transcript from the IRS: https://www.irs.gov/individuals/get-transcript
