How can I open the .tax file from a previous year's return in the TurboTax web application?

If you have a .taxyyyy file you need that year's desktop program installed to open it.  You can't do anything online with it.

Do you mean you are trying to transfer 2021 in to 2022?  Do that transfer at the very beginning before you enter any new 2022 information.

I'm trying to open my 2015 return to see how much I paid for a vehicle used for business that we traded in last year...

@rossgarin Oh...you cannot use online to do that.  You need the software program to open the tax file.  Or did you save it as a pdf?  ALWAYS save as a pdf as well as tax file.

There is a service called Taxprinter online that you could send it to.  It is not affiliated with TurboTax and we do not know what they charge, etc.

They might be expensive and it is probably not safe to email tax returns back and forth. They are not related to Turbo Tax. I don't know if they can do State.

I have the PDF of the actual 1040 etc but I’m hoping to see the actual TurboTax forms where I answer the questions. Is that possible?

Unless you have the software for that year, no, there is not a way for you to see the questions you answered.

Only if you install the 2015 program if you can even find one.   But you wouldn't be able to update it or download any state returns.  And you can't open the .tax2015 file if you have a state in it.
