If your e-filed return is pending, you will not be able to make any changes until it is accepted or rejected by the IRS. The TurboTax amend process for 2022 will be available soon. When it's ready and your returns have been accepted or rejected, you can e-file your 2022 1040-X. Please see this Help Article for more information.
It has been accepted and I tried to do it but it won't let me add/edit child tax credit for some reason.
Since your federal return has been accepted, the only way you can add a dependent is to file an amended return.
Your ORIGINAL 1040 can no longer be adjusted or changed.
You need to file an AMENDED return using Form 1040X
You should wait until your original return has processed before you file an amended return or the returns could cross each other and cause problems.
Log in to your account, open the tax return you already filed, and click on the link to amend your return.
Thank you for the info. Can I file the form 1040 with TurboTax platform?
The Amended return will be Form 1040X and YES, you can file it using TurboTax and (aside from certain situations) you SHOULD be allowed to e-file it.
No it hasn't been resolved
Remember that an Amended Return does not 'catch up' to your original filed return and correct it. Amended returns are processed separately and can take several weeks to process.
If you're using TurboTax Online, open your return and go to Tax Tools > Tools in the left-side menu. On the pop-up menu, choose 'Topic Search' and enter 'Amend'.
If you're using TurboTax Desktop, click on 'Other Tax Situations' at the top, then scroll down to Other Tax Forms > Amend a Return.

I received a an audit letter from IRS. I tried to amend my taxes to add more w2 but they want me to pay around 3k since I haven't received the actual return so I can return the taxes. Is there a way to deduct the amount from the actual return?
Your situation seems to be a bit more complicated than what we can help you with.
It is not clear what the IRS is saying you owe $3,000 for.
It isn't clear for which year the IRS is saying you owe.
If it is about Tax Year 2022, and you have not gotten your expected refund for 2022 yet, the letter would explain the adjustment they propose and ask if you agree. And if that is the case, they might not be sending you a refund.
You might want to get help through the IRS Taxpayer Advocate or through an attorney, CPA or Tax Professional.
It is just needs to be adjusted due to the three w2 added in the amendment.l and because I submitted one w2 before I received the others which considered me a tax credit (EITC). That's why My return placed on hold until I submit the evidence which all I need to add the three w2 in the amendment so the problem can be resolved.
So, in other words, you return was not yet processed and you did not actually receive the refund yet?
Did the Audit letter tell you to file an amended return or did it tell you to do something else?
If you need to amend, once you enter your son and your W2's you will see an amount due that includes the amount of your refund you were originally showing. If you did not receive a refund, then you will need to deduct the difference between the refund and the new amount it shows you owe.
Example. Your original return showed that you would get a $5,000 refund. Your new return shows that you owe $6,000. You will need to send a check for $1,000 instead of $6,000.
To add your son on the return you will log back into your return and click Amend My Return. Once you click that you will click on the personal info section to add your son and the wages and income section to add your W2's. You should then be able to e-file your amended return. If you need to make a payment and are unable to afford the payment, you can set up a payment online. However, because of the error with the refund and you not having received it, your best option would be to contact the IRS at 800-829-1040 to set up the payment arrangement instead of doing it online.
No, I haven't received my return yet as it has been placed on hold until they receive more documents regarding the tax credit that I explained earlier in the email. Here is what it says when i try to file my amended return. "These numbers only apply to amended return. They don't replace the numbers on your original return." Federal tax due (amended only) $ 3,279 which TurboTax wanted to pay the amount instead of deduct it from the actual return as a revised return
Just tell TurboTax you are going to send a check to get the amendment filed. What was the amount of the refund on your original return? If it was more than $3,279, you should still get a refund for the difference. If the refund amount on the original return is less than $3,279, you need to pay the difference before 04/18/2023. You don't have to pay your tax bill through TurboTax. There are other options to pay if you do owe anything.
It is 5354 dollars so more than 3279. Could you please see the amendment page? Because I'm following the process and it says enter payment date so irs can deduct the payment from my Bank account.
