Return soon for the 2022 edition.
As long as you are still in HS....have a talk with your various teachers to see if one of them will have, or perhaps set up a few tax classes where they can discuss general tax situations with all their students.
Might be part of some Civics, or Social Studies classes, or sometimes math teachers might create or spend a few days on it.
Talk with your parent(s) too....see if they will show you what taxes they file every year, and how your potential working situations might be handled.
@ifykyk You say you are planning to move out and live on your own "after high school"----so can we assume you mean you will graduate from high school next year in 2023? So you are asking about filing a tax return for tax year 2023 ---which you would file in early 2024? If so, you have plenty of time to learn a few things about how to file a tax return.
Or.....do you have a job at this time----have you been working after school, etc.-- already? Will you receive a W-2 from an employer for a job you have had during 2022? Please provide us with some details.
And you should talk to your parents about taxes. They may plan to claim you as a dependent for 2022 and maybe 2023 and beyond. You can't file a return and claim independent if they claim you too. So you need to make sure they take you off of their return. Unless you qualify as their dependent. But if you have income you still need to file your own return even if they claim you.
Will you go to college? Here are the rules for claiming a dependent. Do/will you qualify as their dependent?
