If you have already submitted your tax return you cannot edit or change it. If you e-filed you have to wait to see whether the IRS accepts or rejects your tax return. The IRS will start accepting 2023 tax returns on January 29, so it will not be accepted or rejected until after that date. If your tax return is rejected you will be able to make the changes and resubmit it. If it's accepted you will have to wait until the IRS finishes processing it and you get your refund. Then you will have to file an amended return to make the corrections. The form for an amended return, Form 1040-X, will be available in mid February.
Your pending return can not be changed. If your return is accepted you will get an email. If the return is rejected the e-mail will tell you what to correct and you can make changes before e-filing again. Amend to change an accepted return after you get your refund. Instructions below
