Forgot to change bank account info for direct deposit as I’ve recently switched cards.

I forgot to change my account number for my tax refund, and its already been accepted by federal and state. Should I call the IRS help line? Like how do I get my money?

I did this 2 years ago. Your pretty much screwed and you aren’t gonna see that money. They will send it to the wrong account regardless of it being a closed account. You’ll have to amend the return and that can take at minimal a few months

You can try to call the IRS at 1-800-829-1040 and see if they will delete the bank account information for you but it may not work. If they are able to delete the bank account they will mail you a check. Please see this TurboTax FAQ for more information.

Here are some tips when contacting the IRS:

• First choose your language. 
• Then do not choose the first choice regarding REFUND, or it will send you to an automated phone line.
• Instead, press 2 for personal income tax questions.
• Then press 1 for form, tax history, or payment.  
• Then press 3 for all other questions.
• Then press 2 for all other questions to be transferred to an agent

If the IRS cannot delete your bank account information and the bank rejects the deposit you will get a paper check mailed to you.
