I think I forgot to report a payment that I received that totals ~$1400. I think I might have not received the 1099 forms or might have missed them. I assume it should have been reported to IRS, because they have asked me to send them my W9. That said, when I wanted to, I got this suggestion "We recommend waiting to amend until after you've received your refund or paid the taxes owed on your original return(s). The IRS often makes corrections that remove the need to amend your federal return. If the IRS corrects your return, you'll receive a notice explaining the adjustment or asking for additional forms." I'm just wondering if I should wait and that IRS will be doing their adjustments and is there any issues or consequences or if I should go ahead and submit the amend now to prevent issues.

Don't file an amended return until the original is fully processed. There are several reasons for this. 1) the IRS does not and cannot process amended returns until the original is processed and recommends not filing until the original is processed. 2) filing to early can actually delay the processing of the amended return 3) the IRS might change something else. If you file an amendment now, it may be incorrect.
there is a consequence to waiting when you will owe additional taxes that will be paid after 4/15. There will be penalties and interest for late payment. penalty is 1/2% a month or fraction thereof but additional interets accrues daily.
If you have received your refund or your account has been debited for your balance due, you can go ahead and file an amendment.

thanks @Mike9241 . assuming they already have the payment reported to them, are they going to adjust accordingly (which means no amend is needed)? is that fair assumption and their routine?
