Try clearing your Cache and Cookies, then return to that section. TurboTax automatically calculates your Child Tax Credit for you. If you had entered an amount of Advance CTC you received, your state refund would go down.
If you're using TurboTax Online, you can view your tax forms by clicking on Tax Tools > Tools in the left-side menu, then choose 'View Tax Summary' from the pop-up. Back at the left-side menu, click on 'Preview My 1040' to look at your tax forms.
Here's more info on the Minnesota Child Tax Credit.
To whom it may concern,
When I initiated my tax return for this year, I carefully reviewed my records and confirmed that I did not receive any advance Child Tax Credit (CTC) payments. However, TurboTax continues to assume that I did receive the advance credit and automatically reduces my refund amount accordingly.
I have attempted multiple troubleshooting steps on my end, including clearing all entered data and restarting, but the issue persists. At this point, I am unsure how to correct this manually, and it appears to be a software or system-side issue that requires assistance from TurboTax’s technical team.
I believe this is not an isolated case. I have seen similar issues reported by other users, including the following discussion on Reddit:
https://www.reddit.com/r/TurboTax/comments/1qnwdp3/mn_state_return_child_tax_credit_glitch/
Any guidance on how to resolve this issue—either through a workaround or a system fix—would be greatly appreciated. I am happy to provide additional documentation or clarification if needed.
Thank you in advance for your time and assistance.
Say yes to receiving the credit and then enter zero for the amount. Go through a few screens, maybe even logout. Let the program accept that reality. Then you can go back and change the answer to no and it should hold that zero value.
Hi @AmyC ,
Thank you for taking the time to respond—I truly appreciate your effort. Unfortunately, the issue still persists.
Even after setting the advance CTC amount to 0, logging out, and logging back in, TurboTax continues to automatically reduce my refund as if I had received the Advance Child Tax Credit. When prompted, I explicitly answered No, yet the system still applies a reduction based on an amount I never received.
To clarify:
I filed using the desktop version last year, and I am confident that the option to receive the Advance CTC was not checked, even though an estimated amount may have been calculated.
In the current TurboTax Online version, the software appears to ignore the unchecked Advance CTC receipt box entirely and forces an adjustment regardless.
This is not a user-entry issue—the adjustment is being applied automatically by the system.
At this point, the discrepancy is large enough that I am seriously considering hiring an accountant to complete my return, which is frustrating given that this appears to be a software bug rather than a filing error on my end.
Would it be possible to escalate this issue to the IT or engineering team to investigate and correct the behavior, rather than asking users to “accept” an advance payment that was never received or assume the program will "accept that reality"? I am more than willing to provide screenshots, logs, or additional details if that helps resolve the issue.
Thank you again for your time and support. I sincerely hope there is a technical fix or workaround available.
Best regards,
What is on line #25 of Schedule M1CWFC?
@DawnC I do not have line #25 in my 024 Schedule M1CWFC.
I have worked through the MN on both the online and desktop versions trying to figure out the problem. I am able to get the credit. I would like to take a deeper look at this. However, I need a diagnostic file which is a copy of your tax return that has all of your personal information removed. Please notify me by adding @AmyC to your response. If I discover a solution, I will reply. Otherwise, it will be moved on to an investigation team.
You can send a token to me by following the directions below:
TurboTax Online:
Sign into your online account.
Locate the Tax Tools on the left-hand side of the screen.
A drop-down will appear. Select Tools
On the pop-up screen, click on “Share my file with agent.”
This will generate a message that a diagnostic file gets sanitized and transmitted to us.
Please provide the Token Number that was generated in the response.
TurboTax Desktop/Download Versions:
Open your return.
Click the Online tab in the black bar across the top of TurboTax and select “Send Tax File to Agent”
This will generate a message that a diagnostic copy will be created. Click on OK and the tax file will be sanitized and transmitted to us.
Please provide the Token Number that was generated in the response.
Thank you for your follow-up. My token number is 1326889. I look forward to hearing back from you.
You "experts" really dont listen, this lady clearly said she DID NOT get the advanced credit. I spent 7 hours on the phone explaining this exact issue and get ZERO help. I ended up having to file through Taxact to get my correct refund because of the Turbotax software problem! You are messing up ALOT of people's MN refunds!
Switch to Taxact or file somewhere else, and your refund will not be short. Turbotax has not fixed the problem and they have been aware of it for at least 2 weeks! They don't listen and will give you the run around, save your time and frustrations and file elsewhere. I used Taxact and got the full amount.

LOL! I already filed elsewhere, because no matter how I try to explain it, you never get the actual problem fixed.
Turbotax is taking the numbers from my 2024 form that shows what I could get but also shows I did not opt into receive it. So on my 2025 M1CWFC even though I selected no I did not receive the advance when it asked me. So no matter what I do its filling out my M1CWFC 2025 form wrong. It's checking the box that I did get the advance causing my refund to be over 3000 less than it should be. I filed with taxact and it shows my correct refund without ANY problems. I am warning everyone I know not to use Turbotax EVER! This has happened to hundreds of people in MN!!! There's a whole thread about it in local groups. TURBOTAX IS FRAUDULENT!
