Filed my taxes and am being told someone claimed me through state, but not federal. I don’t qualify to be a dependent. Is it possible, and what should I do?

No one can claim me, and I have no idea who is claiming me. They told me federal “went through” but not state, and want me to file via mail. I’m worried my identity has been compromised. How will this be settled once they receive my papers?

You should go ahead and contact your state.

For now, go ahead and mail your state return. 

The state will investigate your identity and process your return.
