Filed Jointly. I have an offset. My husband submitted the Injured Spouse after we efiled. I didn't work this year. Will he get his total refund back?

Help me! So last year I had filed my return, unaware of an offset that I had. I had been waiting for the refund, and found out that the entire refund was to be applied to my debt. I had also filed jointly with my husband. We then submitted an injured spouse for him, and were given his portion back in about three months time from when I found out. About a week, and a half ago.. I filed again jointly, and EFILED the federal return.. We were planning to just send the injured spouse in separately within the next few days for my husband. We did so, but I am curious. Our refund is greater than the amount of my debt. So wheres my refund says my deposit it 3/15. However, a portion may be taken away due to the offset. So can we use the amount being sent to us, and just wait for the other amount from the injured spouse to be taken care of? I had forgotten the amount of the refund was higher than the debt itself. Thanks so much!

If the amount of your refund is more than the debit they will automatically send you back the remaining balance. It can take the IRS a few weeks to process the injured spouse form- so if they approve it again this year they will send your spouses portion back to you like last year.

How can they not approve it, just wondering?
