Do you have a TurboTax Online account?

We'll help you get started or pick up where you left off.

Federal tax was already e-filed then the federal government changed the rules on the tax for unemployment.

Turbo Tax said the federal tax might have to be amended because of the tax break for unemployment.  When I went back into taxes, Turbo Tax had changed the forms to not tax unemployment with a different refund.  Turbo Tax is now asking to e-file again but it doesn't say it's an amended tax.  It looks like I'm filing it for a second time. Should I go ahead and file again?

You cannot e-file a tax return again once the original tax return has been e-filed and accepted by the IRS.  Only the amended tax return, Form 1040-X, can be filed.

The IRS requests that you do NOT amend the 2020 tax return for the unemployment compensation exclusion.

If you have already filed your 2020 Form 1040 or 1040-SR, you should not file an amended return at this time. The IRS will issue additional guidance as soon as possible.
