Why was 1040 ES payments allowed on last years 1040A, but needs to be on 1040, this year?

Why was 1040 ES payments allowed on last years 1040A, but needs to be on 1040, this year?

EVERYTHING is on a 1040 this year.

What determines which software is required depends on which new/or old schedules are required for your data.

Unfortunately, the Schedule 5 may have messed it up for you this year...but perhaps you may also have some other "stuff" this year that would required the upgrade anyhow....but apparently Federal quarterly estimates will force  it this year.
