Electronic filing of 1040-x

Now that the IRS has started electronic filing of 1040-X forms as of August 17, 2020, when will turbo tax upgrade the 2019 software to allow for this electronic filing.

Nobody knows at this time if they will add this to 2019 at all.

that sure is disappointing.  They knew this was coming since May.  Not to be ready to go with the electronic filing is inexcusable.  Especially in light of the 6-8 month backlog the IRS is having handling the paper forms.

This might not be simple to do.    Updating the tax software is only a small part.     Changing the entire business model that ends all online e-file capabilities on the Oct 15 (extended due date) to purge the servers of tax returns and store all online tax returns as PDF files would require a huge development effort.    The e-file capability for the desktop versions also ends at that time so that the servers can be reprogrammed for the next years software. 

Updating the program is only a small part - updating the software to transmit an amended return to the TurboTax e-file servers does no good if the servers aren't there to receive it.

In my opinion, it will take a while for TurboTax marketing and management to decide how to handle this.  (if they offer it at all).
