Do not amend. If you have an incorrect amount on 1040 line 30 the IRS will adjust it for you and reduce your return. They know how much they sent you.
Do not amend now. The IRS may well recognize that you did receive the stimulus and adjust your tax liability accordingly. Also to avoid confusion one should never amend a return until the first return has been processed and any refund has been received or payment has been made.
Thanks for your response to my question. I was concerned that I might be charged a penalty for attempting to defraud the government. But I received a similar suggestion from another community member, and so have decided to wait awhile longer and see what happens. Have a nice day.
