Maybe, the IRS might automatically correct your tax return and send you a refund that is $1,400 less. Before filing an amended return because you reported that you did not receive the third stimulus, I would wait to see if the IRS automatically corrects the error and reduces your refund.
If the IRS automatically adjusts your refund, you will not have to file an amended return. If they do not adjust it automatically, you will have to file the amended return and pay back the $1,400. If you pay before April 18, you will not incur any additional interest charges.
Don't go any further ... WAIT for the IRS to process the original return since they are catching this error 99.9% of the time.
already did amend yesterday got a email from turbo tax so i did it I am getting money back like 1500 after they take the 1400 out my question when i did the amend i checked take the 1400 out of my bank 04/18/22 my question if they do take it out before my refund will they take out again???
hello @noteblue516
"i checked take the 1400 out of my bank 04/18/22"
that's just not possible with an amended return.
Don't pay anything, since IRS is going to take that $1,400 off anyway.
