Do I need to file an amended return in response to CP2000?

  1. Received CP2000 April 10, 2016. (for tax year 2015)

  2. Partially disagree with changes. (missed a 1099-R IRS identified, but also have a large health deduction missed IRS did not identify)

  3. Do I file response to CP2000 and wait for an answer (I will still owe money)...or do I respond to CP2000 and file and amended return for 2015?

You can challenge the CP2000 using documentation and an explanation of what you think you owe. If the IRS accepts your explanation they will mail you an updated CP2000 with the corrected amount. At that time you would then pay the IRS that amount.
