Do I have to pay the state tax due from the original return if I am due a refund on the amended return?

You don't have to pay the tax due on the original return but you may be assessed a penalty for late payment of tax if the amended return is not processed right away. If that happens, the penalty may be reversed automatically, but you may have to request that it be reversed if it is not done automatically.
