Do i have to file my own taxes if im under 18?

okay so I'm only 17 and have been working for about a year now, can I file my own taxes or do I have to go under my moms taxes?

If you can be claimed as a dependent on your parents’ return, you can still file your own return so that you can receive a refund of taxes withheld.  (You will not get back anything for Social Security or Medicare withheld.) You will not get the $4000 personal exemption.  Be sure that on your own return you say that you can be claimed as a dependent on someone else’s return.

Are you living with a parent who supports you?

Usually your parents can claim you if you are under 19 or under 24 and a full time student.

Then you indicate on your return that you can be claimed as a dependent on someone else's return.  If you do not say that, you cause a big problem for your parent(s).
