Please explain more.  Like on a Joint return?  It shows you have the Live expert help feature so ask them.

Could you help me understand which portions of my due taxes are a tied to which incomes?

I have 4 different incomes that I had to file taxes for. I ended up owing several thousands of dollars on my return (state and federal). How can I tell which income sources were the ones I owed money for?

Thanks for your reply!

No way to know.  Your tax is calculated on the total income.  And the more income the higher tax rate.

Because you only get one standard deduction no matter how many W2s you put in. Turbo Tax starts out by giving you the Standard Deduction.  You entered more income when you entered the second W2 but you didn't enter more deductions.  And each job only withheld taxes like it was your only job for the year.

Did you have self employment income?  The self employment tax is listed separately.

Self Employment tax (Scheduled SE) is automatically generated if a person has $400 or more of net profit from self-employment.  You pay 15.3% SE tax on 92.35% of your Net Profit (If it is greater than $400).  The 15.3% self employed SE Tax is to pay both the employer part and employee part of Social Security and Medicare.  So you get social security credit for it when you retire.

The SE tax is already included in your tax due or reduced your refund.  It is on the 1040 Schedule 2 line 4 which goes to 1040 line 23.  The SE tax is in addition to your regular income tax on the net profit.  You do get to take off the 50% ER portion of the SE tax as an adjustment on 1040 Schedule 1 line 14 which flows to 1040 line 10a.  Turbo Tax automatically calculates the SE Tax and Adjustment.
