Unfortunately, in order to make changes after your income tax return has been accepted, you will have to file an amended income tax return.

If I file an amended income tax return won't that slow down my return? The only difference which I noticed about my 1098-T is the amount received I believe box 1 is about 5k more. Would that even make a difference to my tax refund if I was to make that difference, because I doubt it. Please advise.

You should wait until you receive your refund to file the amended income tax return.  You can then either pay back the difference or receive an additional refund, which ever the situation after you prepare the amended return.
