Come back at the end of the month, when the 1040X amended form is ready here.
So why did you say you were a dependent, if you aren't? Did your parents claim you?
I was a full-time student for half of the year where I do not have tuition expenses and paid rent for half of the year under a 529 Plan which I did not contribute to. However I pay for all of my living expenses and utilities year-round, including rent for the other half of the year. I have a salaried role which makes under $75,000. My parents have not yet filed their returns and are okay with me amending my form to file as an independent. I see that the Form 1040X will be available on 3/25, I am mostly wondering whether I can receive the stimulus check after changing from a dependent to independent.
You may not need to amend your tax return. The third stimulus payment is different from the first two with regards to the dependency rules. Being a dependent will not preclude you from receiving a payment. To find out if you are eligible and how much you can expect, visit our stimulus calculator.
