Yes, you can. The monthly payments were advance payments of part of the Child Tax Credit on the 2021 tax return. Just enter the child who was born in 2021 as a dependent on your tax return. When you are working on your tax return, go through the Child Tax Credit topic in TurboTax. If you qualify, you will get the full Child Tax Credit on your tax return.
When you enter the information about the child, TurboTax will ask how many months the child lived with you. Be sure to answer "the whole year." That's what you have to say for a child that was born during the year.
To get to the Child Tax Credit topic, type "child tax credit" (without the quotes) in the Search box, then click the link that says "Jump to child tax credit."
IRS paid Advance Child Tax Credit to those eligible in six monthly installments starting in July 2021.
This Advance child Tax credit paid will be deducted from your eligible child tax credit when you file your 2021 tax return.
You will get a full eligible child tax credit if you have not received an Advance Child Tax Credit when you file your tax return for 2021.
It is not an additional payment.
