Can you amend a return if it has been selected for an Audit Examination? The preparer overstated the deductions. I need to change from itemized to standard deduction

I wouldn't recommend that.  The audit is already in the IRS system.

But you can call the telephone number included in your audit notice to speak with an IRS representative and ask them this question.  I'm doubtful that the audit decision can be reversed at this point, but who knows?
