Can I take the home office deduction for my business when I received a 1099-NEC? I am not seeing it on the turbo tax program when filling out my schedule C.

I am a contractor for an upholstery company and I  use my home to work out of. I have a DBA. Everything I have read about says I can take the home office deduction so why can't I find it in the turbo tax program.

it should be in part II of schedule C form 8829

The Home Office is shown in the Expenses section when you are entering expenses for your self-employment.

It’s not showing as an option. I am so confused.

From the Income & Expenses section where shown Self-employment income and expenses Click on Edit/Add

On the screen Your 2021 self-employed work summary Click on Edit for your Line of Work

On the following screen, scroll down and click on Add expenses for this work

On the screen What kind of expenses did you have for (Line of Work)? Under Common Expenses, scroll down to Home Office and check the box.  Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on Continue

On the following screen the Home Office will be shown, click on Start

Yes, you can take a home office if you get a 1099-NEC.

 

In TurboTax Self-Employed go to 

  1. Self-employment income and expenses = Edit/Add
  2. Select your business = Edit
  3. Select Add expenses for this work
  4. Scroll down to Home Office = Add
  5. Scroll to the bottom and = Continue
  6. Now you will see Home Office listed = Start
