Can I still get my refund if my husband and I both accidentally claimed our children as dependents? He e-filed first so I had to mail mine. He will amend his to remove.

We get max tax benefit for me to claim our children as dependents, but they were accidentally added to both returns. He e-filed first. We are married and filing separately. My e-file was rejected and I mailed my return to the IRS. He plans to amend his return to remove the dependents. In the meantime, will the IRS go ahead and process my paper return and send my refund as my husband's amendment would still be pending.

A rejected return was never filed, as far as the IRS is concerned, it doesn’t exist.  Also, fixing a rejected return is not an amended return, it is still an original return after being corrected.  Don’t start the amending process, silly change what needs changing.

We are married, filing separately. His return happened to be e-filed first and was accepted. There is a large differential in the amount I would receive for our dependents vs. what he would receive. When I e-filed it was rejected, so I mailed a paper return. He will have to amend his return to remove the dependents. On my mailed return I went ahead and claimed them. Since his amendment has not been done, will the IRS will process my paper return and issue my refund in the meantime?

Ok yes,I misread your post.  His original return in the system probably won’t delay payment of your refund.  The IRS put a priority on paying refunds fast; it usually takes them 6-9months before they start investigating dependent problems, by which time your spouse’s amended return will have fixed the problem.
