Yes. If you have never filed your 2016 income tax return you have until April 15, 2020 before you would loose your refund. If filed after that, you would not receive any refund you might be entitled to. Also, a tax return statute of limitations doesn't begin until you file the tax return.
If you already filed you can amend your return if it was not accurate or correct. The time frame would be the same.
You must use the 2016 software or IRS paper forms to complete a 2016 return. The instructions below will help you get the prior year software.
