No you cannot do that. The refund has to be deposited into an account that has the recipient's name on it.

There is not an easy answer to the problem. I do not know if he would be able to get his refund on the pre-paid Visa and if he would be able to use that or not. He might be able to get his refund as a paper check and then endorse it over to you -- sign his name on the back of the refund check and then write "Pay to the Order of [your name]" so that you can deposit his refund into your own bank account. You could ask your bank if they will allow that with a federal refund check. If that works then you could give him his money later.
Or maybe he could just wait to file his tax return. If he is getting a refund there is no penalty for filing late, and he has up to 3 years to file and get his refund.
