Yes, you can.  However, I would be cautious in attempting to do this by direct debit.  If your return is not accepted before the direct debit date, the IRS won't take your first payment at all.

You have two other options:  

  1. You may pay on the IRS website using this link:  https://www.irs.gov/payments
  2. You may send a check or money order to the IRS with a Form 1040-V. (Be certain the second payment gets postmarked by midnight on the due date, April 17, 2018, to avoid penalties and interest.)  A link to form 1040 is here:  https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f1040v.pdf
