Maybe you could look at past banking records to see who you were making house payments to.  There are some documents that you really should just SAVE for yourself--W-2's, 1099's, mortgage 1098's....Keep them in a file folder or a storage bin, a desk drawer, whatever works.  And of course, you should be saving copies of your tax returns.
