The bank information cannot be changed after you have e-filed the tax return.

If the IRS rejects your tax return you can change the bank information and e-file again.  The IRS will start receiving return on January 29.

If the IRS accepts your tax return the refund will be sent to the bank and account you entered.  If the account is incorrect for you or is closed the bank will send the tax refund back to the IRS.  The IRS will then mail you a refund check to the address entered on your tax return.

No.  If the bank rejects the deposit the IRS will mail a check to the address on your return.  Maybe the efile will reject and you can fix it and resend it.

The IRS is not opening until Jan 29 this year! So you will be waiting awhile to get Accepted or Rejected. And you might get more tax forms in the mail you forgot about or weren't expecting. The employers and banks, etc. don't have to mail the W2 and 1099 forms until Jan 31. That's why we say don't rush to file.

No.  The IRS does not allow you to change it after you file.

If you entered incorrect banking information for your refund, you can change it if your return is rejected.  If it is accepted, however, it is too late to change it.  The bank will reject the refund and send it back to the IRS.  Then the IRS will issue a paper check and mail it to the address you put on your tax return.  Expect a delay of at least a couple of weeks to receive your refund.

Here is what the IRS says about entering incorrect banking information

At the IRS link that xmasbaby0 gave you, note the first bullet under "Solution."

"If the return hasn't already posted to our system, you can ask us to stop the direct deposit. You may call us toll-free at 800-829-1040, M - F, 7 a.m. - 7 p.m."

Try calling after your tax return has been accepted. You can't change the direct deposit information, but you can try to "stop the direct deposit." If you stop the direct deposit, that means the IRS will mail a paper check to the address on your tax return.
