Can I amend my 2021 tax return to apply 2020 overpayment to this years taxes due?

We owe a significant amount this year (2021) but have an overpayment from 2020 that we applied to 2021. After filling, the overpayment did not show up. We must have missed a step when filling. Can we amend our return so that the overpayment will be applied to our taxes owed for this year?

Just wait and see.  The IRS should catch that and add it in for you.

Agreed ... wait for the IRS to catch the error.

And in the future please review the entire return before you file ... I usually suggest you sleep on it and look it over again with fresh eyes the next day  to catch such errors.
