What was the amount entered on your 2020 Form 1040 Line 30, which would be the amount of stimulus payments you indicated that you did Not receive?

I received $ 5200 in stimulus funds. I entered $ 4000 on tax form . IRS deducted $ 1200 from tax return. Tax return went from @2090 to 890. I will use turbo tax with expert help next year. I am 71 years old and not very good on computers. I entered a amended tax reform today on turbo tax and it said I owed federal tax of 1200. I have no paper trail on stimulus funds because it was automatic deposit. I am confused . please help me.

If you received $5,200 in stimulus payments then that is what you should have indicated on your federal tax return. By entering $4,000 you told the IRS that you did not receive the additional $1,200 which you actually received. The IRS knows how much stimulus payments that were sent to you and therefor removed the $1,200 Recovery Rebate Credit from the 2020 federal tax return thereby reducing your federal tax refund to $890.
You have nothing to amend since the refund you received was correct.
I know I made a mistake that cost me $1200. I filed an amended tax return about an hour ago. Can turbo tax stop that amended return from going to irs. $ How can turbo tax help me to get my $ 1200 back. I feel like Im just digging this hole deeper. $ 1200 is a lot to pay for an entry error.

Once the amended return is filed, either by mailing or e-filing it cannot be retrieved. If the amended return was e-filed then you will receive an email from TurboTax when the return is either Accepted or Rejected by the IRS. If Rejected then there is nothing further you need to do. If Accepted it will take the IRS anywhere from 6 months or longer to process the amended return.
You did not lose $1,200. That amount was already included in the $5,400 of stimulus payments you received. The IRS refunded to you the correct amount.
IRS processed the amendment in 16 weeks, as advertised.
But they are now taking their time to issue the payment. supposed to happen within 21 days.
