@Chuck48 Go to https://www.irs.gov/payments and you can make payments there, this is the same place you can make estimated tax payments too. Choose individual option, amended return from drop down, chose for 2025 1040. When you finally do the amended return, make sure to include the extra amount you paid now. You can file the amended return once the federal return was accepted.
To see if return was accepted:
FOR DESKTOP GO TO FILE> ELECTRONIC FILINGE>CHECK ELECTRONIC FILING STATUS
For ONLINE Sign in to your account. Your status (e.g., "Accepted," "Pending," "Rejected") will be displayed on the Tax Home screen.
Wait till after the IRS has processed your return. You can pay the taxes due immediately though. Some say wait 30 days to file an amended return, but not neccesary.
While processing can take 8–12 weeks or longer, you generally have 3 years to amend.
Remember to pay the taxes due immediately if you requested a refund so as to avoid interest and penalties otherwise just pay them when due.
Thank you for your prompt reply. Good to hear not necessary to rush to amend before the 15th.
I am due for a refund on my 1040 SR but requested it be applied to my 2026 year. Hopefully will cover any additional tax owed with the increase in 1099 amounts that impact updated Schedules B and 8949
Does the 1040X form allow to import the updated 1099 DIV and 1099 B data from the bank?
And can I assume the State return will be updated as well with both the Federal and State electronically submitted on my Turbo Tax desktop account.?
Much appreciated.
As your first return is applying the refund to next year, that creates an issue as it will get processed stand alone and apply refund to 2026 so you will have to pay the taxes due on the amended return by 4/15.As to amending a previously uploaded 1099. I would manually update it if possible to avoid any issues if you previously uploaded directly. Otherwise, you must manually delete the old first than import the new. Yes, the amendment process will also produce an amended state return. You should be able to e-file the amended return as long as your under your 5 return e-file limit.
Thank you for your help and recommendations.
I logged into the IRS website where my 2025 refund was recorded as applied to 2026. Does that mean that my return was processed and I can now proceed with the amended return?
I then looked into the dropdown for payment options to get a payment rerecorded before April 15 as you recommended. But there is no option for an amended return that has yet to be filed - only an amended that was filed. No other options appeared relevant.
Do I now have to work on an amended before April 15th to get the payment recorded?
Thank you for expediting your response.
Much appreciated.

I am trying to pay the IRS and my State tax today for 1099DIV and 1099B I overlooked after my return was accepted by both. I applied my 2025 refunds to my 2026 Estimated.
I will focus on the completing the 1040 X after these payments are completed.
The IRS does not allow me to make a payment to the 2025 1040 as I have a zero balance. There is even no drop-down option provided.
Can I make the payment to the option for Notices CP2000, CP2501 or CP3219A as the note here is that "payments of this type may post in advance of the actual tax assessment".
Is there a better option?
Thank you very much
I appreciate your assistance your earliest convenience.
If there was no acceptable option to choose in the IRS Online Account, you could try using IRS Direct Pay instead. It allows you to select choices before entering your account information.
IRS Direct Pay which you were given links to allows you to make payments. Choose Amended Return from drop down menu. You then choose apply to 1040, then choose 2025.
Thank you for mentioning that possibility; it is concerning.
I do want to expedite preparation and submission of the 1040X, but I want to make sure I have everything correctly filled out to avoid any further complications.
I've been submitting the 1040 SR for a number of years without any issue, but I realize I need Expert Technical assistance regarding the 1040X.
What are the suggestions within the Intuit services/community that can best assist in this regard, as I've seen options in promotions.
Believe the Intuit expert would be granted access to my desktop to review the document.
Thank you and much appreciated.
