My bank sent a corrected 1098 form for 2 years ago. The original form had no points recorded in line/box 6, but this new revised form does now record several thousand in points paid in line 6.
The bank's letter states that this form was already sent to the IRS. Is any action required on my part? Do I need to amend my filing, or will the IRS notify me of a refund/liability after receiving and processing the bank's letter? And, are there any state tax implications?

You are not required to enter federal deductions on your tax return. Did you itemize your other deductions for that year such as your mortgage interest and property tax paid, etc.? If so, it might make a difference in the refund you could have received, and you could amend the return to include the points paid. As for your state, we do not know since you have not mentioned what state you are in. If entering the points would not change your refund, then you do not have to do anything.
yes, mortgage interest and property tax reduced my tax liability that year.
State is NY.
See this TurboTax support FAQ for amending a tax return - https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-return/amend-change-correct-return-a...
Note: An amended past year return can only be filed by mail. It cannot be e-filed. And that will include your NY amended return if you choose to amend NY. You will have to send it by mail.
