Hi,
I am trying to amend my 2018 return (filed via TT Online) and I have downloaded the software for Mac, per TT guidelines. I have gone through the process of updating a form (8938). The update will have no impact on the income I previously reported. I understood I would NOT need to update other areas such as income etc if there is no change, and that the software would automatically populate this information into the 1040 X. However, if I try to print out the 1040X it shows $0s in all fields in "original amount" col is $0 income, $0 taxes, $0 deductions paid etc etc. Why is this?

Did you start amending using your original 2018 return? Did you download the .tax2018 file on Online?
Hi, i realized my error and I did start with my 2018, however, now I've gone through the process again, the 1040X still contains no information other than a statement of explanation as to why I am amending. None of the 1040 X cols are populated (ie original amount etc) but my original return is included. Given there is no material change to income or deductions, I am simply adding a form, would it be correct that 1040X has no information other than the reason for the amendment.
No you should have the original 2018 return amounts in the first column. It sounds wrong. I can't tell what you might be doing wrong. Start all over from the actual 2018 original return, not one you've been trying to amend. Do not change or enter anything until you start the Amended process.

I am inclined to agree, but I went through the same process to amend my 2019 efiled return, which TT lets you amend online, rather than using the desktop software (as with 2018) and the same thing happened. I am following all the steps. I used their Live service and the accountant didn't think it was an issue if the explanation is clear, but I think i will escalate per the details you provided.
