Amended return does not show as received 7 weeks after delivery to IRS

The IRS does not show my amended return (changing filing status from MFS to MFJ) as having been received, and it was delivered to the IRS 7 weeks ago. I also haven't received any correspondence from them. What should I do?

if you mailed it, there is no confirmation of receipt. It sits in a mailbag until an agent gets to it, which can take 6 to 12 weeks

Thanks for the reply. When I check through the IRS "Where's My Amended Return" system, it says "It takes up to 3 weeks for an amended return to show on your account."

We did our amended return 5 weeks ago and it still shows nothing. I tried calling the IRS. What a joke! The recording says wait time is 15 -30 minutes. So, 1 hour and 20 minutes later, someone finally answers. When I ask her about my return, she says she has to transfer me to the amended return dept. WTF!!! Then, she immediately transfers me before I can say a word and THAT recording says it will be 1 hour to 1 and half hour wait. So, going by the 15-30 minute wait that turned into 80 minutes before, I figured maybe 2-3 hour wait on this one. I hung up. Good luck with your problem.You will need it.
